NYPD Cadet Corps

About the Cadets

The New York City Police Department Cadet Corps is a program open to full-time college students who are New York City residents enrolled in college. Cadets learn valuable job skills and become familiar with the operations of the NYPD. In exchange for working a set number of hours and maintaining certain requirements in school, cadets receive up to $20,000 in tuition assistance.

Their Story

Cadet Miah was born in Bangladesh and came to the United States when he was 15 years old. Nine years later, he is now a student at John Jay College of Criminal Justice with a full schedule. He has served as an NYPD cadet for a year and manages a youth cricket league in his home neighborhood of Norwood.

Cadet Abreu is a life-long resident of Throggs Neck Houses. After graduating from St. Raymond High School for Boys in Parkchester, he became only the third member of his family to graduate from high school. He is now a student at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and will become the first ever in his family to graduate from college.
